Civil & Environmental Engineering

Solving critical environmental problems today.

The world needs trained engineers and scientists to help protect the planet, address today's critical environmental issues and meet the needs of nationwide infrastructure upgrades. In the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, our hands-on approach to learning gives you a strong grounding in the sciences along with extensive laboratory and fieldwork.

Science and Engineering: The Interconnected Spheres

In the Earth and environmental disciplines, scientists observe and investigate Earth system processes using the scientific method. Engineers design solutions to problems identified after scientific observation and analysis. More often than not, scientists and engineers collaborate closely. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at 正澳门六合彩开奖直播 offers several programs that investigate and design solutions to Earth and environmental issues.

Our programs focus on the study of the Earth and its environments, from the core to its upper atmosphere - including all its oceans and land. These studies often include many aspects of how humans and other living things interact with the Earth. There are many tools and practices used by civil engineers, environmental engineers, environmental scientists, and geologists that are intimately linked with biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics as they build and maintain our infrastructures, investigate the past, measure the present and model the future behavior of our planet.

All of my engineering professors have helped me along the way. My advisor was there when I needed to talk, his door was always open. The department is great.

Wilkes has a great environmental engineering program, and because it is a small school, I was able to do work and spend a lot of time outdoors doing research with my professors.

Ahmad Alazmi '21 - Environmental Engineering

正澳门六合彩开奖直播 is unique because it's a small campus but you get a lot of opportunities to do research as an undergrad, which is rare compared to other universities.

Scott Heffelfinger '20 - Environmental Engineering

My decision to come to 正澳门六合彩开奖直播 and study environmental engineering was one of the best choices I have ever made. The professors are highly professional, truly care about their students, and deliver a first-class education.

Brian Palmiter Jr. '13 - Environmental Engineering

I really had the opportunity at Wilkes to make my time here count. I was able to create my own path and make my four years matter.

Our Mission

It is the mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department to provide the knowledge and skills for environmental engineering graduates that gives them a sound basis for professional practice and for life-long learning.

This emphasizes the student鈥檚 learning of fundamental principles of environmental engineering, understanding environmental resource problems in their technical, ecological, socio-political, economic and ethical context, and proficiency in the use of engineering methods to analyze and solve challenging engineering problems.
